The 2006 Auditions |
Orchestras and Ensmbles |

Members are chosen at auditions held each April and membership is open to any musician
high school age or younger. General audition applications for the 2006-2007
California Youth Symphony (for musicians who are not currently enrolled
in a CYS program), must be received by March 22nd, 2006.
Auditions are April 22nd and April 29th at
Foothill College in Los Altos Hills for these new applicants .
You will be notified of your audition time the week before your audition.
Results will be mailed after May 16th, 2006 .

CYS Orchestras (SR/Senior, AO/Associate Orchestra) ii A 3-octave triplet spiccato scale (strings) and full chromatic scales tongued and slurred (winds). iii There will be no sight–reading or required pieces. iv Prospective members should have at least 3 years of private instruction. v Prospective members should have at least 1 year of experience in a school band or orchestra ensemble. - - - - - - - - - - -

- 2 octaves of G major and D major scales. - A prepared piece or study. - Prospective members should have at least 2 years of private instruction. - Prospective members should be skilled in at least the 3rd position, (4th for cellists) - - - - - - - - - - -

Advanced Preparatory Wind Ensembles (WPII) |

|
- 2-3 minute prepared excerpt from a concerto, sonata, etude or similar piece. - 2 octave scales up to 3 sharps and 3 flats. - Prospective members should have at least 2 years of private instruction and 1 year of intermediate school band or orchestra ensemble experience. - - - - - - - - - - -
